I'm dumping a few thoughts I've had lately of types of events that would work well to hold in Verdict day, with some description of the rules for each.

The point of these are that they are easy to understand (1 or 2 simple rules), and easily enforced (you can tell if someone is breaking the rules at a glance.) some are formal tournaments, others are just fun games for free battle.

1. King of the Hill

Type: Exhibition/Tournament 1v1

Players enter a room for 1v1 matches, sitting in a battle royal or team room. As new players join, they are added to a list in order.

The first two players fight. Loser goes to the bottom of the light, winner fights the next one in line.

Players can come and go as they please in the room, but new players are added to the bottom of the list, and if you aren't in the room when you're up to fight, you move to the bottom of the list automatically.

The tournament ends after a set number of matches or time period, and whoever had the longest streak wins.

2. Race to the Bottom

Type: Battle Royal (minimum 3 players)

This is a normal battle royale where the winner is whomever has the lowest AP at the end of the match. However, if you die, you lose. So the goal is to get as close to death as possible but still kill everyone else, or run out the timer.

Each shield equipped counts as 5000 more AP.

3. Race Against the Clock

Type: Bracket Tournament, 1v1

Bracket tournament where each bracket is ranked by how fast the previous matches were. Winning fast or losing slowly is rewarded, winning slowly or losing quickly is punished.

Winner's bracket: Fastest half of winners, Slowest half of the losers
Loser's bracket: Fastest half of losers, slowest half of winners.

4. No Honor

Type: Bracket tournament, Teams

Team tournament where the first half to die goes to the loser's bracket, regardless of what team wins. New teams are formed each round by combining the leftovers.

So in a 3v3, the first 3 players to die go to loser's bracket as a new team, the 3 winners combine into a new team and go on.

This encourages team killing to try and build a better team the closer you get to finals.

5. Draft Tournament

Type: Bracket Tournament, Teams

Round 1 is 1v1. Winners first-come-first-serve pick among the losers to add to their team. Round 2 is 2v2. Same process. Final round is 4v4. UNACs are not allowed.

6. New Meta

Type: Exhibition, any type.

All frame parts of one defense (KE, CE, or TE) are banned, but all weapons of that type are also banned. Shields are not allowed.

7. No Meta

Type: Exhibition, any type.

Only frame parts of one defense (KE, CE, or TE) can be used, and only weapons matching that defense are allowed. Shields are not allowed.

8. Ammo Shortage

Type: Exhibition, Teams. UNACs allowed

Each AC gets only 1 weapon, period. Weapons with infinite uses (KE/Laser blades) are not allowed. Shields are not allowed. Subcomputers and supportive shoulder type weapons are allowed, but if you use shoulder units, you don't get any arm weapons. Weapon arms are not allowed.

The point is to encourage teamwork to avoid wasting ammo.

9. Kill the King

Type: Exhibition, 2v2+ Teams

The "Leader" of each team is not allowed to equip offensive weapons. (Shields, Jammers, turrets, etc. are allowed). Kill the other team's leader to win, but if the leader is the last remaining member of his team, he wins.

UNACs are allowed.

So you have to chase the leader down without killing all of his support.

Personally, my favorites are Race Against the Clock, Race to the Bottom, and King of the Hill.

Race to the Bottom's rules should be changed to "Whoever dies first Wins. Ring Outs and Self Destructs/Suicides do not count."

Having the, "If you die, you lose" rule completely defeat the purpose of "Win with Lowest AP" because you could just kill your opponents and win with whatever AP you have left... (a normal Battle Royal in other words lol).

Edit: Thought about it and nevermind. That wouldn't work because then no one would attack each other... lmao.

I like 6, 7, 8, and 9. lol

Might I suggest, "Leet Meta" be added to the list? No weapons that do direct damage can be used and no shields (or only one) can be used. So weapons like rifles, blades, and missiles can't be used. But stuff like UAV, Bomb Dispenser, Target Gun (the exception because it does do Direct Damage), and maybe Sentry guns..?

Nice list all in all.
Was trying to think of something to put here... Couldn't think of anything... Nope, nothing.

Race to the Bottom is intended to be played with a very short (3 or 5 min) timer, so there's at least 2 people left alive at the end.

Support weapons only would become a kick-fest, I think. And it's too hard to enforce "no kicking" unless you rely on people  complaining. My general rule is that if people have to spectate each other to tell if they are breaking the rules, then it's too hard to enforce.

Oh, okay. thought you were talking like a 10 minute fight. I'm still thinking that people might try one-shot or high powered weapons just to go for kills (which may be very viable if people flock towards low AP builds... but then again, low AP builds are fast so who knows. I really wanna know how that plays out now lol).

Good point on the kick-fest thing. Wish we create custom lobbies with Regulations like in 3rd and have Function Regulations to disable stuff like Kicking, High Boost, Glide Boost, Left Weapons, etc, etc.

7. No Meta

I had a similar idea of doing this as a team event for a long time. But I thought it wasn't a good game type so I didn't bother posting it.

I designed some ACs for this too, with respective team colours:

Blue Teams are fitted with TE Def & TE Weapons

Red Teams fitted with KE Def & KE Weapons

Green Teams are fitted with CE Def & CE Weapons

Even the specific internals belong to specific teams. But I don't think my idea will work very well.

If you guys really do like these, it might be worth organizing some informal games to drum up some activity. Maybe for Saturday night Verdict Day cycling through a few of them each week, depending on how many people show up.

Am I the only one noticing that with some of the part restrictions, killing another AC would be damn near impossible to do in a timely manner? (6,7,8)

Choosing CE for 7 is the only one I can see devolving into a melee battle because killing takes too long. That's because the only effective weapons against heavier players would be rockets, piles or heat cannons.

The other options in 7, and all the combinations in 6, have plenty of effective-damage weapons available.

6, 7, and 8 are all listed as team matches, it's not about taking down one AC slowly, it's about using teamwork to quickly kill the right enemies.

Yeah go for it.

And I think this idea might work:

Ready Weapons only, but no one uses tanks coz you know. Who can pull off some dope quick scopes

I think that would devolve into just sniper cannon quads. There's no real reason to use other ready position weapons (except maybe howitzers on some maps) if everyone has to stand still while firing.

Short term team killing for long term championship wins. Or you can just play normally and don't be the one of the first people to die.

Something cool that I'd like to see again is the OCV Mechaverse tournament. Basically where you have teams of three, but each player fights one at a time. When one player dies, another hops in to take his place.

Bit time consuming and takes patience but it's fun.

This is similar I wanted to do for my team colours event I posted earlier. However, 3 teams of 2 were playing at the same time. It would probably be a nightmare to run.

I played as a Tank in ACVD with my team.

Posted 05 May 2016 - 03:51 PM

Football or I dunno Catch would fit better I guess.

Players on offense must have one tank equipped with two different howitzer cannons for different passes, at least one receiver and one blocker with the extra player choosing either blocker or receiver.

On the defensive, well as of me typing this, I was only able come up with man on man defense for this.

As far as rules go, I was thinking  of having  ACs on the defensive team equipped with  weapons of two damage types, and ACs on the offensive equipped with shields with the same rule. ONLY 2.

Game flow wise in typical football fashion ACs line up on their respective sides and as soon the play begins a small game of rock paper scissors unfold as blockers and tacklers each choose ONE from their two weapons and shields  to cross with the other. As soon the blocker's shield is taken out the tackler is cleared too boost charge the tank hopefully before they fire their howitzer at the receiver. As for the blockers who lost their shield the only thing they're allowed to do now is get in the way of the AC trying to tackle the Quarterback.

For receivers the goal is to "Catch" the incoming howitzer round thus winning a point for the team. (THERE IS NO GOAL LINE, at least not in this version, perhaps after I'm done typing this and the peeps weigh in their thoughts.) The defender that chooses to follow the receiver must intercept the howitzer to prevent the offensive team from scoring.

From this point on I haven't thought about all the details but hey, seemed like a cool idea at the time.

I'm all up for a new event, if it means that there'll be a large chunk of players on at a single time.
